Day 07 Blog – It’s a Party!

Dear Backers’ Club Members,

Our second day in the studio. Yesterday was a blast because we were all seeing the new sets for the first time, including two sets that are brand new to the Dog River universe. Today is a blast for a whole different reason. Nancy (“Wanda”) is back on set! She’s a lot of fun, and brings energy to the whole crew when she’s around… even when her call time on set is 7:30am and she has to be dancing in heels.

One of the tricks we use to help Nancy and the background performers get into the feel of a party atmosphere is to play music over a sound system right up until the moment we roll camera. Today’s tune of choice? “Raise a Little Hell” by Trooper! It’s a bit surreal, and I thought you might find it interesting to hear what it sounds like, so we recorded a bit of audio from set:

Brent has the day off, but as always he’s on set watching the monitors.

Sure, we’re not moving around a lot today, but it’s still pretty exciting. We have four VIP guest stars joining us. First of all, we have three sports casting superstars making cameos in the movie: Darren Dutchyshen, Jay Onrait, and Dan O’Toole. Really nice guys, and natural comedians. I have to say that – I think Darren could probably bench press the whole set if he felt like it! We actually met these gentlemen at the Rider’s home opener, and just for you I brought along a camera. We’ll put together a Rider’s special feature for you in the weeks to come to share that experience.

What’s in a Name? Meet Cindy Climax

The Fourth VIP guest is our first Kickstarter Backer to visit the set, Cindy Hunter! I had the pleasure of finally meeting Bart and Cindy Hunter as they joined us on set for Cindy’s cameo. She’s admittedly not a morning person, and she told me that she’s not a natural on camera, but you certainly wouldn’t know it to see her on set! For her scene, one of our Assistant Directors asked if Cindy could do a little dancing. She literally jumped at the chance, and really stole the show. When you watch the movie this winter, keep an eye out for the lady ordering nachos and dancing up a storm. That’s our Cindy!

On a break between scenes, relaxing by video village, we were chatting about some Corner Gas trivia, and someone mentioned that all of the lead characters in Corner Gas have last names that are towns in Saskatchewan. We decided to name Cindy’s character, and after some brainstorming on what we could name her character, we stumbled across Climax, and thus Cindy Climax was born! A little cheeky perhaps, but way better than Cindy Moose Jaw.

OK Backers, that’s it for today! Don’t forget to check out the Video Blog for Day 07 to catch some of the smooth dance moves, and we’ll see you back at the studio!

ps – It was Cindy’s birthday. We all had such a great time with you on set. We all hope that you and Bart had a wonderful and unique experience with us – one to remember. Happy birthday, Cindy!

That Cindy’s one lucky gal. I’m sure she’ll never forget this birthday. I’m green with envy!
